I moved to rural Somerset from Cornwall 25 years ago, thinking how useful it would be to be nearer centres like Bath and Bristol, as Cornwall is such a long way from anywhere. The reality is that I rarely venture north of here – this little corner of the county has me trapped in its spell and there are plenty of the things that I regard as essential – green hills, trees and sky!
I travel west frequently though, to visit my mum in Plymouth. This gives me opportunities to traverse the deep Devonshire lanes and open moorland of that county and paint there.
