Somerset Art Weeks Festival 2019
2019 saw Somerset Art Works celebrate 25 years of Art Weeks, a unique celebration of Visual Arts in Somerset.
There was a special events programme; commissions with Feral Practice and Marcus Coates, Suki Chan and Ben Rivers. New venues, collaborations and partners took part, such as Close Ltd, Hamdon Community Art Project, The National Trust at Fyne Court, Wincanton Town as well as continuing partnerships with Heritage Courtyard Studios, Black Swan Arts, ACE Arts, The Old Brick Workshop and many others. We even had a collaboration with Somerset Libraries, renewing involvement between visual arts, learning and literature in the county. Ceramicist Emilie Taylor held a successful Craft residency at Somerset Rural Life Museum with supporting workshops, in partnership with South West Heritage Trust.
Our expanded bursary programme supported thirteen artists in developing and making new work, including five Creative Pathway Bursaries and additional mid-career bursaries, at some exciting venues including Cotley Barn, Clay Hill Arts, Meare Fish House and University Centre Somerset. The B-Wing project held in Shepton Mallet Prison attracted lots of media attention! And we finished the festival off with our Family Friendly Weekend, providing resources and activities for younger visitors and family groups.
