During Somerset Open Studios 2016, artist and writer Alice Maddicott delivered an education workshop programme covering five schools, exploring the theme of art and place in a travelling open studio.

Each workshop differed and was tailored to the location and age group but all sought to explore how we create work in response to places around us and how we transform the ordinary into the extraordinary.

Taking the idea of Somerset’s landscapes as inspiration and transforming the everyday, children created imaginary worlds through both creative writing and art. The art side included some amazing sculptural work – using found as well as provided materials to create things from their written world.
