Annie Musgrove
In 2020 Annie Musgrove spent lockdown making a series of linocuts documenting changes in the hedgerow where she lives on the Somerset-Devon border. This series of lino prints are being exhibited as part of SAWs Somerset Reacquainted and have also been selected for exhibition in The Absent Gallery.
Musgrove will be showing a selection of these prints together with a series of oil paintings of Exmoor at the Old Brick Worskshop in Wellington during the SAW Arts Weeks. This spacious gallery will be open to the public allowing visitors to enjoy seeing work up close and for real in a safe environment.
After living in different parts of the world, Musgrove has made her home on the Somerset-Devon border. This forgotten rural landscape, the different seasons and times of day are the inspiration for much of her work. Musgrove works mostly in oil on board or canvas adding layers to build up a depth to her work. In her paintings of the north Somerset coastline she expresses the interplay of light on water, wet sand and rock formations. Musgrove’s understanding of meteorology, wind and wave patterns, geology and the forces of nature that shape the landscape and coastline give her paintings an added resonance, depth of understanding and integrity.
