New planting at Priorswood Community Garden

Sarah Langley leads a community gardening initiative in North Taunton as part of SAW’s Our Place project.

In July and August 2015 Sarah ran sessions with the Priorswood youth drop-in (40+ young people meeting on a Wednesday evening at the community centre) and also family workshops at the Pride in Priorswood days in the park.

Thanks to volunteer Bob Rawle there is a new raised bed in the community garden, Sarah and the youth group have planted this with fragrant and medicinal herbs. Petty vandalism has been a problem in the area recently, the hope is that young people will feel an increased sense of involvement and ownership of the community garden, develop an interest in growing and gardening, learn new skills and understanding about food production and sustainability.
