Enriching Creative Learning for Somerset Children and Young People

InspirED is a consortium of Somerset arts organisations - comprising Somerset Art Works, Somerset Film, SPAEDA and Take Art - bringing the skills and expertise of arts and media professionals direct to schools, colleges and children’s centres across the county.

Visual Arts delivery is led by Somerset Art Works (SAW), we are committed to supporting the development of young people’s artistic talent, as well as building relationships between schools and the community.

New Territories with Richard Huish College

Watch a 2 minute film documenting artist Sara Dudman working with Richard Huish College art students.

The day was planned to support A Level art students’ confidence, ambition, ability to engage and discuss ideas, feelings and responses to art works and exhibitions, plus providing opportunities to learn more about artists’ career paths and collaborative practice. A deconstructed drawing activity enabled students to gain confidence and become responsive and intuitive in their approaches to drawing.

Water- Meadow-Wood 2016 – Meadow Year

Kubla Khan Imagined Worlds Education Workshops

Poet Technologist Christopher Jelley worked with primary schools to celebrate the 200 year anniversary of Coleridge's Kubla Khan

Cranes and Communities Work Experience Week with Huish Sixth

Artist Sean Harris spent a week with a group of Sixth Form students, providing work experience with a practising artist, leading to a public event.

Herbarium at Lytes Cary Manor

SAW delivered a programme of education workshops at Lytes Cary Manor as part of the Herbarium contemporary craft project.

New Dimensions at the Museum of Somerset

SAW developed an education strand for the New Dimensions project at the Museum of Somerset.

The Travelling Open Studio

During Somerset Open Studios 2016, artist and writer Alice Maddicott delivered an education workshop programme with her travelling open studio.

Magna Carta Project

Curry Mallet Primary School wanted to invite other local schools to take part in an art project based on the medieval theme of the Magna Carta, so enlisted the help of Somerset Art Works and InspirED.

Huish Episcopi Academy – Cranes and Communities

Huish Episcopi Academy has been working with SAW and The Great Crane Project on a cross-curricular art-science-geography project.
