Art Weeks 2017 focuses on groups getting together to create vibrant exhibitions, projects and events or to gather together to display their work responding to the theme of Festival year- this year it is ‘Prospect’.

Somerset Art Works recognise that many artists do not have professional studios or a workspace suitable to open to the public. With this in mind, Somerset Art Works provide a Venue Matching Service between artists and potential venues including galleries, cafes, restaurants, shops, halls, organisations etc that offer space for artists to create group exhibitions.

If you are a venue providing space or an artist seeking space please send us an email with the following information to:

For artists: send us your name, contact email address, 50 words about yourself and your practice, website address, plus your geographic area. We will try to help you by posting your request on this page and sharing with our members and contacts.

For venues: send us your name, contact email address, venue address, 50 words about the space you are offering. We will list the information on this page, and send it out to artists who are looking for space as well as informing Area Representatives.

An open, two storey building with plenty of wall space, including some fantastic high sections and unusual areas, a stairway and two storey height walls. Also a large reception area which could accommodate 3D art.

YMCA would be very interested in hosting a group and are very keen to promote the theme of ‘Prospect’ as this ties in with the development ethos of the YMCA, supporting young people and the community to find their path in life and encouraging the development of personal futures.
The centre is open from 8am to 9pm Monday to Friday and 9am – 5pm on Saturdays.

In terms of promoting the exhibition, YMCA will be in touch with local press etc, and have a community radio station which runs from the centre (Sedgemoor FM), with their own Social Media sites as well as a website:

An artist and teacher who has just moved from Oxford (was at Magdalen Road Studios) to Isle Abbotts near Taunton. Primarily a painter interested in light, land and surface but with a fascination for materials and the idea of the ‘objectness’ of painting. Wants to be part of a small group show, maybe with abstract artists/makers whose work explores similar themes.

The Market House is a Grade II* listed building dating from 1855. Extensive renovation of The Market House was completed early in 2014 and this iconic building now offers internal and external areas to let for community and commercial events.

‘The Shambles’ – the old meat market, situated inside towards the back of the building – is now a superior venue for productions, lectures, exhibitions, workshops, consultations, films, meetings etc complete with a glazed roof, underfloor heating, seating up to 50 people, with a small servery and top of the range AV equipment.

Looking for a Space in the Wells, Bruton, Frome area

Contact: Belinda Brownlee

Phone: 01749 870455

We are 3 potters (Belinda Brownlee, Linda Bristow and Alison Potter) and one printmaker (Cath Bloomfield) looking for a venue somewhere between Wells and Frome. Unfortunately the venue we were hoping to show from in Bruton is no longer available (their business has grown in the last two years and they no longer have the space). We are open to any suggestions.
