Pauline Lerry
During these weeks, indeed now months since March -this lockdown time – I have not changed everything I do, but the pace and the rhythm of what I do has changed. I am someone who needs a work timetable so I have always allocated studio time into my week, but now I have been allocating studio time into my day. To prepare for work, to experiment, to work through a painting or drawing- invariably several at the same time. But I have more time to think things through. My physical world has become smaller, but more focussed. My studio sits at the end of my oasis of a small garden – it is not a large space – but I count myself fortunate to have a dedicated space to work. I have always understood the necessity of the creative process. We are creative beings, and some of us are fortunate enough to be able to give voice to that, especially now.
I have collaborated over the years with other artists on a number of projects. Change Matters is the most recent, each artist considering aspects of Climate Change. I decided to comment on the worrying issue of sea levels rising. This work is ongoing and will be shown as part of SAW in 2021. Some of the work is featured here on my profile page, and at www.artworktogether.com. I have also been part of Somerset Reacquainted, a project initiated during lockdown by Somerset Art Works to bring together artists around the county, to respond together and to share.
