Ben Rivers’ films are rich, cinematic portraits that explore landscape as a fictional utopia or dystopia. This programme starts with I Know Where I’m Going, a foreboding, futuristic road trip through Britain. There is a Happy Land Further Awaay is shot in the Republic of Vanuatu and utilises a poem by Henri Michaux to point to the difficulties of describing an alien place. We end with a science fiction log of the last living woman, set in a biosphere, the film Urth, was commissioned by The Renaissance Society, Chicago.Curated by Josephine Lanyon for Somerset Art Works working in partnership with Somerset Film.
